When you install a new SSL certificate using a CSR (Certificate Signing Request), the certificate authority (CA) must verify that you own the domain before issuing the certificate. This verification step ensures your SSL is securely and correctly associated with your domain.
Verifying your SSL
There are two main ways to complete this verification. In most cases, you will be sent an approval email, which you will be able to accept and consequently download your certificate. The second process would be requesting a TXT record, which will have to be done through our customer service team.
Requesting a TXT record
In the case you don't have access to the approval email addresses associated with your domain, please follow these steps:
Step 1.
Please reach out to our support team, by email service@internic.ca, live chat (8am - 10pm EST), or phone 1-866-642-1232 (9am - 5pm EST). We will provide you with a unique TXT record that you’ll need to add to your domain’s DNS settings. This record confirms domain ownership to the certificate authority.
If your DNS is hosted elsewhere, please input the TXT record within your host, and let us know once it has been added. If your DNS is hosted with Internic, please follow the next steps:
Step 2.
Log in to your Internic account, select “My Account” in the top right corner, then from the drop-down menu, click “Domain Manager”.
Step 2.
Click directly on your domain name to access the domain editing page.
Step 3.
On the domain editing page, select the "DNS" tab.
Scroll down to Manage Advanced DNS Records and click on "Advanced DNS Manager."
| Important: If the Nameserver Information section shows your domain as set to Use Third Party Hosting, the Advanced DNS will only be accessible with your hosting provider. Advanced DNS records live on nameservers. You will only be able to access the Advanced DNS from within your Internic account if the name server information for your domain is currently set to Park with Internic, Forward Domain, or Host with Internic. |
Step 4.
To add a TXT record, click the button to "Add Record".
Set the Record Type as TXT, and fill in the Host and Record fields as instructed by your hosting service provider. You can leave the TTL as it is. Click the green button to "Save".
If you are experiencing issues or have any questions, please feel free to contact our support team at service@internic.ca live chat (8am - 10pm EST), or phone 1-866-642-1232 (9am - 5pm EST).
