SSL certificates are essential for keeping your website secure and trusted. They work by encrypting data and verifying the identity of your website, which helps protect your visitors and builds trust. To maintain this high level of security, the organizational details tied to the certificate must always be accurate and up to date. That’s why SSL certificates need to be renewed yearly, it ensures that your site’s identity and security remain verified.
I used to be able to get a 2-year SSL certificate. Why not anymore?
This change is due to updated security policies from Apple and Google. As of September 1, 2020, SSL/TLS certificates with a validity period longer than 13 months (397 days) are no longer trusted by major browsers and operating systems.
Because of this industry-wide change, our SSL provider, GlobalSign, stopped issuing 2-year publicly trusted SSL/TLS certificates on August 31, 2020. Now, all new SSL certificates must be renewed more frequently to stay valid and compliant with these updated security standards.
