What is two-factor authentication?
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is an extra layer of security that helps protect your online accounts.
Instead of relying on just a password, 2FA requires a second factor—usually a unique code generated on your smartphone through a text or an app like Google Authenticator or Duo Mobile. This means that, when Two-Factor Authentication is activated on your account, you need both your password and your smartphone in order to gain access.
Does Internic offer two-factor authentication?
Yes! Internic requires Two-Factor Authentication on all accounts to ensure the highest level of security. This means you will require both your password and an authentication code from your smartphone in order to sign in. For security reasons, Two-Factor Authentication is now a standard feature and cannot be disabled.
Internic offers two ways of setting up your 2FA: you can choose to receive your authentication codes by the phone number/email on file, or you can use an authentication app such as Google Authenticator or Duo Mobile. Both methods provide the same extra layer of protection for your account—it’s simply a matter of choosing the option that works best for you.
Why two-factor authentication is beneficial:
Stronger Account Protection: MFA adds an extra layer of security beyond a password, making it much harder for anyone to access your account without authorization, even if your password is compromised.
Stops Password Theft: Even if attackers steal your password through breaches or phishing, they can’t log in without the second verification factor.
Blocks Phishing Attempts: MFA protects you even if you accidentally enter credentials on a fake site. Without the second factor, attackers can’t gain access.
Industry Standard: MFA is widely recommended by banks, tech companies, and security experts as a key defence against cyber threats.
Meets Compliance Standards: Enabling MFA supports compliance with data protection laws like GDPR and CCPA, helping keep your personal information safe.
How to change your two-factor authentication method:
Step 1: Select " My Account" in the top left corner and then click on "Security".
Step 2: In your Security Settings, you’ll be able to see which Two-Factor Authentication method is currently active on your account. By default, all accounts are set up to receive authentication codes via the phone number and email on file. If you’d prefer to use an authentication app instead, simply select the “Authentication App" and then "Confirm Changes". You will be given steps to complete.

What if I don't have access to my authenticator app anymore?
If you’ve lost access to your authentication app and can’t retrieve your codes, you’ll need to contact our Customer Support team. The account holder will be asked to complete a verification link to confirm ownership of the account. Once verified, we’ll update your Two-Factor Authentication settings so that codes are sent to the phone number or email address on file.
What if the phone number on file is a landline?
If your Two-Factor Authentication is set up to send codes by text, but the phone number on file is a landline, don’t worry. In the bottom right you will see two email options during login, and you’ll be able to have the code sent to either the primary or alternate email address associated with your account.
