As of October 13th 2010, CIRA's EPP based registry system is changing what type of restricted .CA domain names may be registered. Below is an outline of the changes. Previously CIRA would support the general registration of third and fourth level domain names, including conflicting domain name registrations. (eg. mydomain.on.ca, mydomain.bc.ca) These types of domain name registrations are no longer generally available.
Only first level (mydomain.ca) registrations are generally available. CIRA will allow any existing third or fourth level .CA domain names to continue to be renewed. A registrant may request the registration of a blocked, third level or forth level domain by contacting us with the domain you wish to register. We will then manually submit the registration request to CIRA for review. At that time CIRA will determine whether to grant such a request on a case by case basis.
